Charity:
One of the nicest things about doing a show is seeing people laugh and have a good time. This doesn't always happen. I remember that gig in Wales...

Sorry. Drifted off there. I've often toyed with the concept of a charity where magicians and entertainers could go out free of charge and perform for worthwhile causes. In 2006 a magician called Greg Storey approached me with a similar idea. Thus Magic Moments was born (thinking about it, I should have given it more of a build-up than that. Although it is nice to make use of the seldom utilised word 'thus' - a word popular in biblical times but suffering from limited exposure in today's literature. Except in poetry where it still frequents many an opening stanza).

The idea was to have magicians go into hospitals, schools, elderly people's homes and bring a moment of magic into their day. We wouldn't be a charity - just the catalyst to encourage performers to select a charity and use our sponsorship forms to raise money for good causes and perform at a venue of their choice. On February 2nd 2008 the first Magic Moments Day was staged. The National Day of Magic involved over 100 people and raised over £11,000 for charity.

The event was tinged with sadness. I arranged the flagship show which was to feature stars such as Wayne Dobson, from ITV's A Kind of Magic. Wayne was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and we had a sell-out show and performers of excellence booked for what was to be a superb night of adult variety and comedy. Our emcee was Jeremy Beadle. Sadly Jeremy passed away a few days before the event. Our show was cancelled and the day dedicated to his memory.

In the future we aim for Magic Moments to become part of a bigger venture and will annually stage the National Day of Magic raising funds for charitable causes and bringing a moment of magic into the lives of people who need it most.
